Introducing… The Japanese House

Share:

Whilst sounding like a full band name, The Japanese House is made up of solo artist Amber Bain. Ever since she was little, she has had a strong mind on her shoulders, originally aspiring to be a politician. This changed when her father taught her a few classic songs on guitar, which really ignited that spark which had been inside her this whole time.

After experimenting with sounds when she was a teenager, The Japanese House came about whilst Amber was at college and began writing demo songs. The name The Japanese House came from when Amber Bain went on holiday to Cornwall with her family as a child, and they stayed in Kate Winslet’s house, which she later learned was called The Japanese House.

With her demo’s, Amber caught the attention of Matt Healy, who has been helping to produce her music for a few years now. Her first E.P had The 1975 vibes running through it, especially in its artwork, which- when uploaded to Instagram- had 1975 fans wondering if this was The 1975 all along.

Amber Bain is a multi-instrumentalist, and in her music, she contributes guitar, synthesizer, keyboards and of course, vocals- which have been likened to Matt Healy’s. The sound she creates is almost ethereal, with the vocal layers adding harmonies that seem to fall around you like delicate pieces of silk. It fits into that dream-pop/shoegaze, melancholy genre which has been very popular with young bands recently.

Like Pale Waves, The Japanese House has been taken under the guiding wing of The 1975, supporting them on their 2016 December UK arena tour and even being signed to the same label, Dirty Hit.

The Japanese House currently has four E.P’s out, with the promise of a debut album on the way, once touring has calmed down. She has just released new single ‘Lilo’, a wonderfully serene song that has been received well by critics. It’s a new, calming chapter where her vocals take the forefront, giving you a glimpse of what to expect from a potential debut album.

The Japanese House will be going on a headline tour this November, playing cities such as Newcastle, London, Birmingham and a date at Gorilla in Manchester on 25th November.

Tickets will be available Friday 5th October at 9am via: http://gigst.rs/TJH
