Country musician Drake White has joined forces with his band The Big Fire to create melodic country with hints of funk and blues. Over the past five years he has released two full length albums and two EPs that show is vast development and exploration of the genre that he depicts to have no boundaries.
His 2016 debut album Spark was named after the concept that this release is the spark that will ignite his fire of a music career, and so far it’s blazing. It peaked at number four in Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart while selling 11,000 copies in the first week. Taste of Country commented “White is a natural storyteller – a man capable of reaching every single fan without pulling a muscle.” The album features elements of surrealism that White states is an ode to Pink Floyd’s psychedelic masterpiece The Wall, for example including snippets of recordings of his grandfather performing sermons speaking of love, brotherhood and nature.
This strong album was followed-up by his Pieces EP this May, which he has kept current in order to achieve the same widely appealing reception he succeeded at with Spark while still maintaining his defiant sense of authenticity as a songwriter. By working alongside renowned producer Busbee, elements of pop and reggae were newly intertwined with White’s signature gospel country sound, which has certainly paid off.
White has done incredibly well for himself in regards to his live shows, having supported the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Little Big Town and Eric Church to name a few. He has also performed at the UK’s biggest country festival C2C: Country to Country in 2017 along with Zac Brown Band and Cassadee Pope. His performances are fulled with fire as he brings all his spiritual energy to the stage and ensures every member in the audience can feel it too.
