Isaac Gracie came to Deaf Institute and performed a sold out show, as part of his UK tour.
The opening act began their set as a solo performance. ‘Lion’ opened with an eerie track. Despite
being alone on stage, the audience were drawn into an almost trance-like state. For the remainder
of the set, ‘Lion’ became a duet as a drummer joined the line up. Their style has a poetically dark
tone which worked brilliantly with the bands minimalist set up and passionate vocals. It was clear
that the lyrics were meaningful to the front-woman as she poured herself into every song.
The constant buzz in the room was growing as the venue was steadily filling in the run up to the
set.As the band entered the stage, the lights were dimmed and a glowing buzz played in the
background.

The show began with ‘All In My Mind’. Isaac’s sound is very scenic- what I mean by that is, it makes
you feel as if your stood on top of a mountain looking around at the world. The band then played a
song which has a more classic indie vibe, the track titled, ‘Running on Empty’, will be featured on
their upcoming album. Isaac’s voice is beautiful and is undeniably at the forefront of their music. The
band were energetic and engaging, allowing the set to run more smoothly. Song, ‘The Death of You
and I’ initially had an almost ghostly, european ballroom beet, and was possibly my favourite song of
the night. It then suddenly took off with a much more angry influence during the chorus, slipping
back into the wonderfully dynamic samba tones. The group played music from across all their
previous EPs and released before closing with ‘Reverie’. A mellow song which featured heart-beat-
like drums, emotive vocals and a sing along from the audience.
Of course, with the crowd chanting, Isaac Gracie had to perform an encore. The band choose to
perform a cover of the Arctic Monkeys hit ‘Fluorescent Adolescent , which they added their own
mellow spin to.
