MOBO Awards 2010: The Highlights

Share:

Last night saw the return of the MOBO Awards for the 15th year running, which this year descended on Liverpool for a fabulous night of music and glamour!

Amongst the winners were those cheeky JLS boys who picked up Best UK Act and Best Album for their self-titled debut album (loved Oritse’s teary tweet this morning about his mum being so proud – bless!). These boys have come a long way since X-Factor and have proved many a critic wrong in the cynical world fuelled by TV talent shows.  Well done lads.

Other winners included Plan B for Best UK R&B/Soul Act and hot favourite of the moment Professor Green who picked up the award for Best UK Hip-Hop/Grime Act.  2010 has definately been the ‘Green’ year for everyone’s favourite Hackney lad.  Sold-out shows and festival appearances have paved the way for an even better 2011 and will see him rounding off 2010 with a variety of shows across the UK.  I actually learnt a thing or two about  Professor Green on the train to work this morning (courtesy of the Metro newspaper) so i’ll share them with you…his real name is Stephen Manderson, the first record he bought was Kylie’s ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ and he’s friend’s with Olly Muirs. There you go.  Font of knowledge I am.

Big congrats also go to Ndubz, Tinie Tempah, Eminem, Gyptian, K’Naan, Empirical, Guvna B and Billy Ocean who all picked up awards.

Also great to see performing live on the night were Tinchy Stryder and Devlin (pictured) who are appearing together in London next month for a one-off charity gig at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in aid of Alicia Key’s charity Keep a Child Alive. This is a show I definitely don’t want to miss -two great acts and all for a good cause? Count me in captain!

You can catch some of the performers live on tour during 2010/2011 so if they tickled your fancy last night, go along and check them out!

That’s all for now, i’m off to learn some more Professor Green facts….
