Brit Awards Nominees 2011

Wowzers how this year has flown by!  It only seems two minutes ago that I was writing this for the 2010 nominees and here we are again.  We already heard that James ‘finger in every pie’ Corden will be hosting the event again but last night saw the nominees announced with the usual grand fanfare.  Most are fairly obvious contenders for (newly designed) iconic gong but there’s a few wild cards in there too.  I’m well aware that the BRIT Awards aren’t to everyone’s taste but for those of you that do like a good old BRIT Awards Ceremony, here’s some of our favourites so read on….

Plan B‘s omnipresence in music awards is now a given.  He’s up for Best Male Solo Artist, British Single and British Album of the Year.  He’s got my vote on the album front, up against Take That, Tinie Tempah, Mumford & Sons and The XX.  Tinie Tempah is nominated in four categories no less, including British Male, Breakthrough Act and British Single.

Ellie Goulding holds the flame for the ladies this year, nominated in Best British Female and Breakthrough Act categories.  She’s got some stiff competition in the form of Paloma Faith and Laura Marling but it’s relative newcomer Rumer who I’d like to see win an award although it’s more likely to be for her Breakthrough Act nomination.  Of course Cheryl’s in the too but that’s hardly a surprise…..

And then it’s the boys who takeover in Best British Group with Biffy, Gorillaz, Mumford & Sons, Take That and The xx in the running. Take That have had an absolutely astonishing year, what with Robbie re-joining and their Progress Tour becoming the biggest selling tour in UK history. I suppose a BRIT Award would top the whole thing off nicely but personally I’d like to see The xx or Biffy claim this one.  We will see.

Nominations for across the pond see Katy Perry, Eminem, Arcade Fire and Kings of Leon all up for two Awards alongside David Guetta and hot new favourites Cee Lo Green and Bruno Mars. Glad to see Irish favourites The Script up for an award too for International Group.

And, going from strength to strength Jessie J is in the running for Critics Choice Award alongside fellow BBC Sound of 2011 nominees James Blake and The Vaccines. The girl can do no wrong at the moment and I reckon this one’s in the bag too.

The BRIT Awards 2011will be held at The O2 in London on Tuesday 15th February and will be broadcast live on ITV1
Most of these guys are on tour this year so go check them out for yourselves!
