Interview with… SAMI YUSUF

British singer-songwriter, composer & producer Sami Yusuf has sold out 7 million records worldwide and played live to quarter of a million fans in a single setting!

On 1st June Sami is coming home to London for a special intimite show at O2Shepherd’s Bush Empire in aid of War Child. Today he took some time out of his busy schedule to speak to Gigsandtours…

Q) What are you up to at this moment?
A) Busy with the promotion of my latest album, ‘Wherever You Are’.

Q) You’re touring soon what can the audience expect?
A) Sami Yusuf at his best.

Q) Will you be playing any new material or a mixture of your back catalogue?
A) New material and a mixture of back catalogue dotted with surprises.

Q) How long did it take to record your new album and what where your main inspirations?
A) Almost 2 years. My life from 2007 onwards.

Q) What is your favourite song to perform live?
A) Currently, it is ‘Worry Ends’ from my latest album, ‘Wherever You Are’.

Q) Where has been your favourite gig?
A) There have been quite a few. From the recent ones, it was in Norway. I loved the intimate setting and it was just cool. I’m hoping London will be even better.

Q) Who has released a stand out album this year?
A) “21” by Adele.

Q) Which song do you wish you had written?
A) Hmm. Probably one of Lennon’s work.

Q) What was the first gig you ever went to?
A) I don’t know whether it can be classified as a “gig” but it was a classical music concert at the London Barbican – sorry, not cool enough. I was a Classical Music geek growing up!

Q) Plans for the rest of the year?
A) To inspire and be inspired.
