Sandhouse are the new duo from south London making waves with their debut single ‘Sick Of Your Face’. A beguiling introduction to this duo, it is an utterly captivating and assured first release from this highly creative new band.
We had a chat with the duo ahead of their performance at Abbie McCarthy’s Good Karma Club on Thursday 27th February. Tickets on sale now.
Hi Sandhouse, thanks for chatting with us! Can you introduce yourselves to our readers?
Hey, of course. Sandhouse is us two, Anna and Caspar. We met in a band at university and have been writing and releasing music together since 2018.
Congrats on your latest single ‘Bite Me Back’! What was the inspiration behind this track?
Anna: I was getting into an intense new relationship when we wrote Bite Me Back and struggling to balance the intoxication of falling in love with a desire for autonomy. Writing Bite Me Back was a chance to fully feel unboundaried addiction to another person without it being destructive to my actual relationship.
Your sound is a unique blend of alternative 90s, 60s psychedelia with modern electronic influences. What artists inspire you across these genres; and how did you experiment with these to find your sound?
Smashing Pumpkins, Cocteau Twins and Led Zeppelin are some names that influenced us from those eras. They had a big impact on the guitar sounds we were inspired by. We blended this with inspiration for production and arrangements from newer artists like Mount Kimbie, Matty and Wisp.
For anyone who has never seen you live, what is the atmosphere like at a Sandhouse gig?
A Sandhouse gig is an atmospheric experience that pulls from a wide range of genres and pushes our studio recordings in new and exciting directions.
Speaking of gigs, you’ll be performing at Abbie McCarthy’s Good Karma Club on Thursday 27th of February. What can fans expect from your live set?
They can expect to hear some new, unreleased music, to watch our talented band and to have a good time.
Have you got anything exciting coming up that you can tell us about?
2025 is going to be a really exciting year for us. We’ve got more music coming out in January and are in the studio at the moment working on a new project as well as some great live dates in the diary.
