Q&A with… Jazzy

Share:

Coined as ‘most successful artist launch of the year in terms of singles chart success for new music released in 2023’ by Music Week, Jazzy soared through the charts with her singles ‘Giving Me’ and ‘Feel It’. Her track ‘Make Me Feel Good’ was met with similar praise as it became the 12th biggest streaming record in the UK in 2022 and has garnered over 400M streams globally.

We spoke to Jazzy ahead of her club night at London’s Electric Brixton on Saturday 23rd of November; she’ll be joined by Kayleigh Glynn and BL3SS.

Hi Jazzy! Thanks for chatting with us!

Ah, no worries at all, happy out! 😊

Born and raised in Dublin, how did your upbringing inspire who you are as an artist?

Dublin’s such a big part of who I am. The city, the people. Of course it’s my home so I can say it with my chest, but of all the places I get to travel now, Dublin is the best city in the world and there’s nowhere I like half as much as I like being home. The nightlife isn’t really the same these days, but it was definitely those nights out when I was 18/19 that inspire me!

In your success, you’ve worked with some big names such as Sonny Fodera, D.O.D, Alok and Headie One (to name a few). Do you take much away from working with musicians such as these?

Ah yeah definitely, it’s a whole new buzz. Everyone has their own way of creating and it’s really interesting to see but more than anything, it’s the mindset – being around people who are so passionate about what they do really drives you to push yourself further.

What has been your biggest pinch-me moment to date?

Honestly, hitting number 1 in Ireland was huge for me – I’d say it was a dream but not sure I was ever able to dream that far! I’m so lucky to have genuinely had hundreds of pinch-me moments since then and every one of them is special in a different way. To be honest, I still get that exact feeling when I hear my songs on the radio or in people’s cars to this day, and I’ve been doing this for literally more than two years now!

What artists are featuring on your playlists right now?

I do a mix pretty much every month on my SoundCloud – it’s called the GEWAH series. If anyone feels the need to see the inside of my musical brain then it’s all there for them to get into haha

We can’t wait to see you at Electric Brixton in November. Which of your tracks is usually the fan-favourite live?

Giving Me is always the winner!
