Meet Stevie Bill, the Dutch girl from Amsterdam who lives in New York City. She writes about change, the heartbreaks of life, the joy of being a girl, and the nostalgic feelings you get in your twenties. You may know Stevie from viral hit ‘Hahaha’ which succeeded her debut EP ‘Messy; coining Stevie a true Gen Z pop talent. Stevie has just announced her second EP ‘I was a Platinum Blonde’ which is out on 13th of September.
We had a chat with Stevie ahead of her trip to the UK this Autumn where she’ll embark on her headline tour and join us at Manchester’s multi-venue Neighbourhood Festival on Saturday 5th October.
Hi Stevie! Thanks for chatting with us today. Please introduce yourself to our readers!
Hi!! My name is Stevie Bill. I’m an artist from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I make pop music influenced by rock, folk and R&B sounds. I moved to New York in 2019 to pursue my dreams and become an overall better songwriter and performer. And now I’m here 🙂
Congrats on your new single ‘Lalala’! You say that this song was inspired by the feeling of blasting your favourite song on repeat. What tracks have you got on repeat at the moment?
Songs I have on repeat at the moment are ‘never fight a man with a perm’ by IDLES, ‘Case of you’ by Joni Mitchell, ‘Linger’ by the cranberries and obviously the new Sabrina album. Also this song ‘Pa’ by the Dutch 80s act ‘Doe maar’. The sounds are so quirky and weird. I like that. It reminds me of the Talking Heads. I just got out of my pop girly era and I’m entering my weird angry men music era I think. Hence the IDLES song.
Last month you supported Stevie Nicks at Hyde Park – what an achievement! How was that experience?
It was actually insane. It felt very full circle for me. At my graduation in New York last year I sang ‘dreams’ in Radio City Music Hall, little did I know I’d be opening for her only a year later. I feel like I manifested it – or my parents, by calling me Stevie hahah. I couldn’t believe it when she came out with Harry Styles to sing Landslide. I was there with all of my closest friends and parents and we all cried. Life is so mysterious and magical. I feel very grateful.
You have just announced your first ever headline tour across the UK, EU and US! What touring essentials will you be bringing with you on the road?
Definitely my Broccoli Jellycat toy. My New Rock boots. My I <3 music pajama pants. And an orange a day keeps the doctor away.
You’ll also be bringing your live show to Manchester’s Neighbourhood Festival … what can fans expect from your performance?
I always believe that performers have a duty to entertain and inspire. So I always bring my best energy. I want people to leave remembering the experience, or feeling inspired in some way. An amazing outfit, guitars, singing my heart out and overall: bangers!!! I also like to pop in a sneaky surprise sometimes.
Thanks for chatting with us! Before you go, is there anything else you have coming up that you’re excited about?
Yup… my second EP ‘I was a platinum blonde’ comes out in September! It’s about change, and being a complex human that is constantly contradicting itself. The duality of.. Me! I am so hype to finally have this project out in the world. Thank you for having me!!
Love,
Stevie Bill
