Interview with… Lyra

Share:

Irish songstress Lyra is heading on tour very soon. We caught up with the rising star to learn her story, and find out more about the upcoming live shows.

How did you get into music?

I just started singing from a young age as it’s the only thing I was good at then decided to try writing my own songs as I knew the amount of singers out in the world was crazy so maybe songwriting would make me diff.

I wrote a song for my Nan as she was always worried about me going into that music industry as it wasn’t really seen as a “proper” job in Ireland but being a musician was my dream. After writing Emerald it all took off from there and I just worked my butt off to get here.

You toured with Westlife last year, what was the highlight of the tour?

Singing “New Day” and watching the audience light up the arena. It has never happened to me before and it made me feel like people were really rooting for me which was the most magical feeling.

What do you take away from sharing the stage with a band like that?

That it takes so much hard work and so many people behind the scenes to make a show of that size work.

You’re going on your own headline tour very soon, how excited are you for that?

I’m soooo excited. It’s going to be great getting Meeting new fans. I feel like on stage is where I really come alive. There is no hiding up there, you can sing or you can’t and I find it so exciting going out on stage knowing it’s just me and the audience and nothing else matters.

What can people expect from these shows?

Getting to know me and what my music is about. I love sharing my journey with the audience and letting them get to know the side to me you can’t show on Spotify.

You can expect some songs that you may relate to, some bad dancing, some probably inappropriate outfits and a bloody great night.

What’s your daily routine on a show day like?

Wake up, long shower singing about 16 million songs to warm up my voice.

Get my outfits ready, head for soundcheck (mainly to check there isn’t leads in stage I could fall over). Then it’s time for glam, steam, ring my sister for some words of wisdom then take the stage! After that I’ll like a dead women and fall straight into bed.

Message for your fans?

Enjoy every moment in life, love me, laugh more, see more love music and be yourself. Letting them get to know the side to me you can’t show on Spotify.
