Interview with…Cassia

We caught up with Manchester’s Indie trio Cassia ahead of their NBHD Weekender performance next year…

Tell us about your new album ‘Why You Lacking Energy? which was released this summer, how’s the reaction been?

Yeah, so I think we’re all insanely proud of the album. We wrote, recorded and produced it entirely by ourselves in Berlin so it felt like a huge achievement for us. The reaction has been great I think. It seems that people have really taken the time to dive into the album which is awesome for us as we aimed to create something that had depth and elements to explore the more you listen to it.

You’ve also just dropped your new single ‘Confidence’ featuring Tayo Sound, how did the collaboration come together?

The Tayo collab came about because someone suggested him as a tour support on IG. We’d been listening to him for a while and he was keen so was a no brainer. We had a sick time with him on tour so to make some tunes was the natural next step!

You’ve just come off tour, how has it all been?

Tour has been sick, we always end up being shocked at how big the venues are getting and the reaction to the new stuff has been mental! That’s something we’re particularly happy with as it just keeps giving us more confidence that we can keep exploring creatively. I think we all have the live shows in our mind’s eye whilst writing to some extent, so to finally be able to play the new album and it creates an experience just how we imagined is mad.

For those who haven’t seen you live before, what can they expect from your set?

A light show that far exceeds our means, and an awesome wave of mixed emotion.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

At the moment, Gorillaz (Damon Albarn), Tame Impala, Tyler the Creator, Noga Erez (& Rousso)

You’ll be performing at NBHD Weekender festival in Warrington next year on Saturday 27th May. Are you looking forward to this?

Yeah definitely, we love playing NHBD it always goes off. Can’t wait for it, might have some new stuff to play too which would be cool.

What is your festival necessity?

Well we’ve recently started sticking cheese and crackers on our rider which has been going down well but might be a bit hot for that so I guess we’d have to go for beer.

What’s been a highlight of the year so far?

There’s been loads this year but the most recent one that comes to mind is our sold out show at KOKO in London. That was a bit crazy. Still hasn’t gone in fully.

Any messages for your fans?

Our message for our fans: thank you, this whole thing still blows our mind! See ya next year in May. Gonna be sick!
