NYC collective, MICHELLE, formed in 2018 and is comprised of Sofia D’Angelo, Julian Kaufman, Charlie Kilgore, Layla Ku, Emma Lee and Jamee Lockard. The predominantly POC and queer collective mix and match the writing and production groups amongst the six of them.
MICHELLE, debuted with their 2018 self-released album ‘HEATWAVE’ . Their music circulated rapidly resulting in the band signing with the labels Canvasback in the US and Transgressive Records [Foals, Arlo Parks] in the UK. Their album track ‘THE BOTTOM’ has surpassed an incredible 12.5 million Spotify streams becoming a fan favourite. ‘HEATWAVE’ first showcased the bands Pop, R&B and Dance influences blending together to create their unique sound characterized by layered harmonies, dreamy synthesisers and catchy hooks.
This year the group have played The Great Escape Festival, have sold out shows at Electrowerkz, London and New York’s Bowery Ballroom as well as supporting singer-songwriter Mitski on her tour. The collective have been named one of Entertainment Weekly’s “9 Artists to Watch in 2022”, and NME have stated that they are ‘rising artists certain to dominate the near future’.
In March 2022, MICHELLE released their most recent album ‘AFTER DINNER WE TALK DREAMS’. With tracks ‘MESS U MADE’ and ‘SYNCOPATE’ already being fan favourites both reaching over 5 million Spotify streams already, the album was an instant success. Their only featured artist on the album is R&B singer-songwriter Isa Reyes adding their beautiful vocals to the track ‘NO SIGNAL’.
Michelle will be performing their headline show this November in Rough Trade Records, Bristol.
