Nigerian-Scottish singer-songwriter Tayo Sound has been growing rapidly on the alternative-pop music scene over the last two years.
It was only back in 2019, when Tayo Oyekan was busking for 10 hours a day in his hometown of Reading, but it wasn’t long until he was releasing music through Black Butter/Arista records, with his first single ‘Cold Feet’. A true music obsessive, Tayo’s eclectic taste and DIY approach has lead him to work with industry professionals from George Reid, from AlunaGeorge and George Fitzgerald & Rob Milton of Easy Life, to Grace Carter and Khalid, not forgetting his performance alongside Lianne La Havas and Rachel Chinouriri as part of Annie Mac Presents at The Moth Club in 2020.
Following all of the above, Tayo Sound went on to release his debut EP, ‘Runaway’, in February 2021.
Now in 2022, Tayo has released a string of singles, ‘Two Left Feet’Â featuring Oscar Scheller and ‘Fowards & Backwards’, with his most recent single ‘Hide & Seek’, featuring Rudimental, releasing this August. The song was a result of a session Tayo had in LA, taking inspiration for the feel from Vance Joy’s ‘Riptide’, and Rudimental jumping on board to help with the finishing touches before the production/DJ giants suggested that they release it together, and what a great decision that was.
The track combines acoustic guitar and raw vocal takes, with a punchy drum kick and infectious lyrics. We think Tayo and Rudimental make the ULTIMATE duo, and hope to see more releases from them in the future.
