If you recognize the name Tim Gallagher, it’s probably because his song ‘Lost Without You’ was the only thing that was plastered on your Instagram and Tiktok feed this past two weeks, since it featured on ITV 2’s ‘Love Island’. But Tim has so much more to offer than being just background music on addictive evening reality TV (which we all religiously watch.. don’t lie).
His distinct soulful voice has taken him around the UK on tour earlier this year, selling out in London, Bristol and Manchester, and is due to head back out on tour in November. In between all this – Tim somehow found the time to grace us with his new single, ‘Altar’.
The song combines Tim’s singer/songwriter style with beautiful backing harmonies and strong rhythmical elements to create this smash hit of a pop ballad. It somewhat feels like a slight nod to Adele and Ed Sheeran, yet his infamous falsetto tone brings in the country feel in the melody. Instruments are used sparingly and beautifully, offering a lot of space for his voice, making it a really calm, chill song to listen to. From the end of the second chorus, percussion is brought in to give it a different, slightly more upbeat feel to the song.
The track is littered with little hidden gems, from the little solo bass line in the last 30 seconds to the electric guitar line that fills in the space between the vocals, it really is a treat to your ears – hearing something new with each listen keeps you on your toes, and keeps it exciting – what more could you want?!
As mentioned earlier, Tim will be returning to his hometown of Manchester for a night in Gorilla on the 30th November. Tickets are sure to sell quick so grab them whilst you can!
