Seb Lowe, Night and Day Cafe, Manchester, 4/2/22

On his debut headline performance, Seb Lowe preached to a packed out Night and Day Cafe. With a fantastic support slot from Ruby J, the Northern Quarter got a brilliant taste of what’s to come for the Oldham wordsmith.

Greeting the crowd confidently, full of his signature Northern charm, Seb asked the sold-out venue how they were before launching into a tired about our government. From the off, it’s clear that Seb Lowe does not shy away from his opinions, with belter vocals and hilarious lyrics, his ironic songs sum the current political climate.

His honesty is lapped up by the audience, and he continues to take the crowd on a journey through relevant issues, disguised as catchy indie-tracks. The night saw Seb dabbling in and out of released and unreleased music, with popular tracks, ‘God’s Monkeys’ and ‘The Man The Myth’ striking a particular chord with the audience. His new material also went down particularly well, with a slow love song giving the crowd time to recoup from the political messages.

With a change of guitar and roar from the crowd, Seb Lowe thrilled the audience with fan-favourite ‘Kill Him He’s a Socialist,’ much to the delight of those witnessing. His recent success on TikTok is also highlighted, detailing ‘The Terms and Conditions of living in the UK’. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, gigs included, but Seb Lowe ends the night on a colossal high, encouraging the crowd to sing along to ‘Freak.’ because in his words, “why not?”

Not only is Seb Lowe a lyrical genius, his raw vocals are spectacular and shows the magic that can be created with one man and his guitar. If tonight’s performance is anything to go by, the future of music is in very good hands. With his impeccable vocals, and satire take on political issues, Seb Lowe’s music is refreshing and relevant, and his debut headline performance was a roaring triumph.
