Brooke Combe discovered a love for music aged just 5 years old, after getting her first toy drum kit. Eventually she added playing saxophone, trombone, guitar, bass and piano to her repertoire while at secondary school and began to find her own uniquely powerful voice along the way. Combe, influenced by the ‘90s R&B played in her mum and dad’s house, as well as the Motown her grandparents would play her, developed a love of great songwriting and vocalists and lyricists with their own idiosyncrasies – such as Amy Winehouse and Fleetwood Mac – before beginning to work on her own material.

You’ve got loads of things in the diary between now and Neighbourhood, what are you most excited for?
I’m really looking forward to supporting Miles Kane on his UK tour. It’ll be some experience I can imagine.
You’re supporting The Lathums and Courteeners in coming months who are both playing Neighbourhood Weekender with you – is it nice to build this sense of community within music?
It’s really nice building a sense of community as I feel fairly new to the whole music scene. So it’s always nice to see friendly faces.
As well as playing at Neighbourhood and these support slots, there’s a headline show at YES in Manchester set for November followed by the BBC Introducing show the day after – how excited are you to play these intimate shows?
I enjoy doing intimate shows. It feels easier to connect with people and see how they react to the songs.

- What can people expect from your set at Neighbourhood Weekender?
I’d say people can expect a fun laid back performance with some really strong songs and a whole lot of soul! - Who else are you looking forward to watching over the weekend?
- I’m actually really looking forward to catching Wet Leg. Me and my pals have just got into them so should be a laugh.
Is there a particular song you enjoy playing live?
I love playing ‘Impress You’ live. It’s just a cool song to vibe to. I also love AYWM because it gets the crowd going every time.
Can fans expect to hear you cover ‘Yes Sir I Can Boogie’, or will that be left in the past?
I think ‘Yes Sir, I Can Boogie’ has served it’s purpose and it opened up a lot of great opportunities for me but yes, we gotta leave it in the past.
Three reasons why people should come and catch your set at Neighbourhood?
It’ll be a good atmosphere, class tunes and I’ll put on a hell of a set.
