JGrrey and Finn Askew release ‘Lavish’
Today, JGrrey releases her new dreamy single ‘Lavish’, featuring Somerset hailing emerging talent Finn Askew. The hazy summer banger opens with a guitar chorus and J’s signature witty riffs before developing into an ethereal anthem that circulates long after listening.
‘Lavish’ speaks to the tired and emotionally exhausted, encouraging them to relax and revel in the good
in life. Produced by Earl Saga, the beat brings a hopeful and warm sonic to J’s introspective and agile
songwriting. With an optimistic tone, the single explores the complicated relationship between glamour
and happiness. Both J and Finn feature in the atmospheric video alongside back-up dancers against a
neon-lit petrol station.
JGrrey elaborates on the visual: “The ‘Lavish’ music video is all about the pace that we are constantly trying to keep up. It’s about the speed in which we strive for success to be able to live the lives we want to lead.”
The director, Jamie (JAW) explains the concept for ‘Lavish’: “When scheming up the Lavish music video, J and I were keen to create a heavily stylised performance piece. Narratively the concept is relatively straightforward, the project depicts a seemingly glamorous journey that is ultimately short lived – in my mind this leads to a multitude of ideas surrounding success, false promises, the struggles of fame and the loneliness that comes with pursuing one’s own ambitions. Conversely the relationship between our protagonists – J and Finn – as well as the performance work of the dancers – highlights the power of a collective force striving to accomplish a shared goal.”
Landing in the wake of her stunning single ‘Down’ which was accompanied by an incredible self-directed video with effects inspired by her love of 80s Japanese horror films.
