Fronted by Jordan Cardy, RAT BOY emerged as a hot tip when he won Best New Artist at the NME Awards and was nominated for the BBC Sound poll.
Cardy is the centre-piece to Rat Boy and the brains to producing all the music, building up this alter-ego to become the voice of restless youth.
He combines electronic programming with traditional rock instruments, rapping and singing to create this neat, well placed sound that carries messages of struggles with authority as an adolescent and dealing with the less-fun parts of growing up. His knack for storytelling is influenced by Mike Skinner, with musical icons Blur and Beck also being major influences for his sound.
Whilst Cardy is the forefront of Rat Boy, he is backed by friends Harry Todd (Bass), Liam Haygarth (Guitar) and Noah Booth (Drums). Rat Boy signed to Parlophone in 2015, and ever since then they have just kept climbing up with metaphorical musical ladder.
His debut album ‘SCUM’ earned widespread critical acclaim and hit the Top 20 when it was released last summer. He commenced 2018 by dropping the seven-track ‘CIVIL DISORDER’, a ferocious cocktail of contemporary hip-hop, 70s British punk and 80s American hardcore.
Rat Boy have toured with Liam Gallagher and The 1975, and have headlined The Roundhouse in London. A whirlwind of energy, Rat Boy’s live shows often receive such a frenzied reaction that Cardy has to pause to appeal for calm.
They will be kicking off their 2018 ‘Dumb and Confused Tour’ in Nottingham on the 8th November, stopping at cities such as Liverpool, Sheffield, Bristol and London. Tickets are available via: http://gigst.rs/RatBoy
