Having been together for just over two years, R&B electro-pop duo, Josh and Emma, better known as Weslee, are still very new to the scene. They have been careful in hiding who they really are, adopting a mysterious approach to photo-shoots and artwork. A bright red pair of lips against a mustard yellow background has become their signature stamp.
Whilst their presence may be mysterious, their music has certainly made an impact. Their debut track ‘Gassed’ was made Radio 1’s Hottest Track only 24 hours after its release. A pretty big deal for any band, let alone ones first ever track. ‘Gassed’ and follow up single ‘Bathwater’ are alluring and cleverly written. There’s a sense of professionalism; you can tell Josh and Emma have spent time perfecting their sound, perfecting Weslee, before revealing all to the world.
Weslee draw their influences from the sounds of Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino and Kendrick- artists who have such critical acclaim behind them, they are valuable influences to anyone.
Their song ‘Sweat Dreams’- a more up-tempo, funky track- was danced to by none other than Ru Pauls Drag Race Season 9 Contestant, Shea Coulee, at the Opening Ceremony Fashion Show.
Weslee released their first E.P ‘9F’ on the 8th June 2018, which featured a collection of already released songs and new, unheard ones. Whilst listening to the whole E.P, you get a clear, more bodied picture of who Weslee are, what their sound is and what they want to achieve.
Weslee will be headlining The Waiting Room in London, on 18th October, and tickets are in high demand as the hype rises around the duo.
