Award-winning Australian songwriter and producer Hayden James is quickly becoming one of the fastest-rising house stars on Future Classic records as his third ever single ‘Something About You’ was certified Gold just two years after he started out. The Sydney-born musician followed up on this with ease as his fifth has single ‘Numb’ (featuring Graace) went Platinum two years later, and he shows no sign of stopping.
James signed to the independent Australian record label Future Classic alongside the likes of other Aussie artists such as Flume, G Flip and Nick Murphy, through which he has released all of his music thus far. Composing tranquil summer-ready jams intertwined with soulful and evocative vocals, he has an intricate understanding of what house music can be and takes it there with ease.
His first single ‘Permission to Love’ received highly positive reviews, with Indie Shuffle referring to it as “a modern Balearic pop track with funky guitar grooves [reminiscent] of those found on Daft Punk albums Random Access Memories and Discovery”. It was also the most blogged about song on Hype Machine upon release, and became the most played track on national broadcasting giant Triple J in Australia.
His self-titled debut EP, which was released in August 2013, garnered much love worldwide, but didn’t prepare the indie label for the success he would have with Gold single ‘Something About You’, released early 2015 on the label’s yearly compilation album. This track hit the top 40 throughout Europe including Germany, France and Italy, and earned him his first awards. ‘Something About You’ won Best Independent Dance, Electronica or Club Single at the AIR Awards and Best Track at the inthemix Awards, as well as won him the title of Producer of the Year at the Stoney Roads Awards.hayden james / introducing
