Interview with…Tadhg Daly

We caught up with songwriter Tadhg Daly ahead of his London headline show this April…

Introduce yourself! Where are you from and how did you get into music?

My name is Tadhg and I’m from Jersey! A small island next to France for anyone that doesn’t know… I can’t exactly pinpoint how I got into music as I was pretty young and have loved it for as long as I can remember. I know that I started to get really obsessed when I found Nirvana so I kind of give them the credit for my love of music actually developing into something I wanted to pursue.

For those who have never listened to you before, how would you describe your music?

Ive gone through a bit of a change of sound quite recently to be honest. Ive always made pop music in some form but now id say it leans towards the indie side of pop. I think of it like pop music made for people that love grungier stuff.

Your recent single, ‘How’s Your Day Been’ was released earlier last month. Talk to us about the meaning behind the song?

The song has a bit of a sarcastic tone I think. It’s about being in a ‘situationship’ and trying to convince yourself and the other person that you haven’t caught feelings for them. I tried to convey the energy of that part of a relationship where it is playful and fun but things are starting to get a little heavy.

What is your dream venue to play and why?

I think Hammersmith Apollo or Brixton Academy are my dream venues right now. I’m not totally sure why, I just think they’re cool.

Is there an album in the works?

Not quite an album yet but HYDB is the first track from my upcoming EP which I’m so excited about. It’s for sure the best music I’ve ever made and I can’t wait to share it with people.

What can we expect at your headline at The Lexington this month?

For anyone that’s seen me live before, they can expect a really different show compared to usual. It’s going to be super energetic and raw. Expect a mix of laughter, tears and guitars.
