Nilüfer Yanya, London based singer-songwriter, and her guitar driven soul will be performing at Manchester’s YES on 4th April during her headline UK tour.
Yes, is the newest of Manchester’s indie venues, but despite only opening six months ago, it’s already the venue to discover new music. It’s the venue to watch; complete with a club in the basement, the Pink Room for gigs, roof terrace and a street food kitchen, it’s enough to persuade any friend to explore new talent on stage, such as Nilüfer Yanya.
Yanya describes herself as a soulful guitar-based indie pop singer. Her beautiful vocals and complimentary guitar are heavily influenced by artists such as Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse and Jeff Buckley, with earlier influences including The Cure and Pixies. After recently supporting Sharon Van Etten on a string of US dates, Yanya will be more than warmed up to play her own headline tour.
Beginning on SoundCloud with a very distinct sound, Nilüfer Yanya’s breakthrough was her 2016 EP, “Small Crimes.” This EP showcased Yanya’s incredible talents through dark pop with jazzy undertones. Yanya’s debut full length album, Miss Universe was released not even two weeks ago, on 22nd March and has already been awarded an incredible rating of 8.3 by Pitchfork. With writers complimenting Yanya’s powerful voice that is “full of hunger”, this album has high praise from anyone who listens to it. Yanya’s album is best described, by herself, as a “mysterious semi-conceptual album tied together by oblique snippets promoting a fake self-care program called WWAY health.”
Miss Universe is the first time Yanya has been accompanied by a full band, and we can already tell that her performance at Yes is set to be an explosion of music and feel- good dancing that no one should miss. With a solid library of songs to choose from, any original or novice fan will be able to have an amazing time soaking in the good vibes we know the night will deliver.
