Hip-hop producer, songwriter and DJ from Forest Gate, London, Steel Banglez gained his musical talent through being taught to play classical Indian instruments by his mother when he was younger. He grew up surrounded by a mix of pop music, drum and bass and Bollywood, discovering hip-hop and grime after listening to Dr Dre’s ‘The Chronic’ and ‘2001’.
He later began teaching himself how to DJ and make music, with the help of his brother, which lead to him studying Music Production and Audio Engineering at London’s SAE.
At just 16 years old, he shadowed D Double E on his tour with Dizzee Rascal, and that’s the point in which he realized he wanted to be a part of this scene and professionally create the music he loved. To add his own twist to the hip-hop/grime genre, Steel Banglez added in eclectic samples from Bollywood, Chinese music and Jamaican dub.
He developed a close working relationship with MIST (Birmingham-based MC), who he created several tracks with for ‘M.I.S To The T’ E.P in 2016. ‘Karlas Back’ is what put the spotlight on to his production work, leading to a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell in 2017. He has since collaborated with MoStack, Not3s and Yungen, and has won ‘Best Producer’ for two years in a row by GRM Daily.
He released track, ‘Your Lovin’, in 2018, which first developed when he was on Drake’s American Summer ’16 Tour. The song features Yxng Bane and MØ and reached number 47 in the Official Charts and spent 11 weeks in the charts.
Steel Banglez has a goal to make a definitive album, putting all his own work and uniqueness in it to create something that would get listeners as excited about music as he does.
Steel Banglez will be playing a show at Camden’s Jazz Café, in London, on 17th November. He will be joined by some very special friends, and you can still get tickets via: http://gigst.rs/SBF
