Introducing… Raye

Share:

20-year-old Raye is quickly becoming the UK’s number one RnB sensation. The former Brit School attendee has made a big name for herself in the last three years, having written songs for the likes of Charli XCX (‘After The Afterparty’), Little Mix (‘If I Get My Way’) and John Legend (‘A Good Night’) which propelled her into becoming the skilled songwriter she is today.

In 2014 she self-released her debut EP Welcome To Winter, which saw her refine her talents from a young age. She was soon approached by Polydor who released her following breakthrough EP Second in 2016. This lead to her chart-topping collaborations with Jonas Blue for dance anthem ‘By Your Side’ and Jax Jones’ bold banger ‘You Don’t Know Me’. Both tracks became huge hits of the year with ‘By Your Side’ being certified Gold by the BPI, while ‘You Don’t Know Me’ reached double Platinum status.

She has continued with this success as she released her latest EP Side Tape in May which saw her collaborate with artists such as Maleek Berry, Steel Banglez and Ray Blk. She’s amassed over 39 million Spotify plays with hit single ‘Decline’ (featuring Mr Eazi), with other tracks such as ‘Cigarette’ (featuring Mabel and Stefflon Don) following closely behind.

Raye has since released the feisty single ‘Friends’; a tropical pop tune that promotes female solidarity. Produced by Mark Ralph (Years & Years, Clean Bandit), Kyle Shearer (Melanie Martinez) and Fred Gibson (Ellie Goulding, Plan B), the track lashes out at backstabbing, competitive friendships both in and out of the music industry. ‘Friends’ makes for a strong and refreshing return as Raye plays with her traditional RnB infused pop sound by introducing Latin pop beats reminiscent of Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

This month will see her embark on her first ever headlining tour, however Raye has gained more than enough experience performing live, learning from the likes of Rita Ora, Halsey and Years & Years whom she has previously supported. She’s also won over audiences while playing the likes of Glastonbury, Parklife and The Great Escape to name a few.
