Introducing… Billy Locket

Share:

Northampton born, Billy Lockett, has been a musician nearly all his life, teaching himself how to play the piano and guitar when he was a child and then later developing a strong singing voice to accompany them. It was obvious that music was a natural gift to Billy, but he didn’t choose to pursue it or take being a musician seriously until later down the line. His father was the biggest influence in choosing music as the career path to go down, and there are many songs that Billy has written about him, in his memory.

After playing around and creating covers of popular songs for YouTube, he began releasing his own music in 2011, with song ‘Balance’ being featured heavily on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing, the week of its release.

Billy’s musical influences come from two very different musical greats- Radiohead and Ludovico Einaudi. He praises Radiohead for how experimental they are and not conforming to musical norms. Einaudi, on the other hand, taught Billy to worry more about the notes of the piano and the composition, rather than flare. Evoking emotions through the instrument can be more important than putting on an over-the-top show.

Billy Lockett had a huge breakthrough when supporting Lana Del Rey at one of her Manchester shows on her Paradise Tour in 2013, and then went onto support Nina Nesbitt and KT Tunstall, all within quick succession of each other. He then gained mainstream attention with debut E.P ‘Burn It Down’, which was released in 2016, with the title track gaining nearly 1.6 million streams on Spotify. Billy’s sound is a mixture of atmospheric pop-rock, it has different levels and points of building up, lifting you up with it, which make his songs fascinating to listen to.

He has gone on to sell out his own headline shows, and now, in 2018, he is back after releasing recent singles ‘Fading Into Grey’ and ‘My Only Soul’. Both songs have gained huge radio play across BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music, and this October, Billy will be supporting none other than Jeff Lynnes ELO at a number of arena dates around the country.

Billy has also just announced a headline show at Manchester’s Deaf Institute on Saturday 13th April 2019. Tickets will be on sale Friday 5th October at 9am from: http://gigst.rs/BillyL
