Limerick natives Aoife Power (Vocals/ Bass), Niall Burns (Guitar) and Andrew Flood (Drums) struck up a friendship over “cheap vodka and The Velvet Underground” before they began playing music and developing their DIY sound. The band ultimately moved to London where they became Whenyoung, finally releasing debut single ‘Actor’ late last year on HateHateHate Records (The Wytches, Fat White Family).
Following the release of ‘Actor’ Whenyoung have already supported Declan McKenna and Public Access TV and will be supporting Husky Loops this spring. Their latest record ‘Pretty Pure’ was impressively released on emerging indie label Yala! Records that is also founded by Felix White of the Maccabees. When speaking of the band Felix expressed his excitement for their future stating,
“We are so proud to be putting out the first Whenyoung 7”, firstly because it’s pretty miraculous for a band to be making such infectious pop music at such an early stage, but also because they have the rare touch of subtly letting you know there will also be so much more to come.”
Before playing the first NBHD Weekender Whenyoung will be playing a free show at Jimmy’s on 4th May – tickets here!
