Fast-rising Liverpool psychedelic rockers The Vryll Society have released a series of critically acclaimed singles over the past few years, including live favourites ‘Sacred Flight’ and ‘A Perfect Rhythm’, the swaggering psych-pop quintet have built up a strong grassroots following, culminating in appearances at the likes of Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and TRNSMT over the past twelve months.

The Vryll Society consist of Mike, Ben, Lloyd, Lewis and Ryan, and are are signed to Deltasonic Records, the label behind The Zutons and The Coral. The band are currently staging monthly residencies in their hometown, spearheading a new generation and showcasing Liverpool’s finest emerging talent before headlining their own UK tour later this year.

When did you first start making music?
MIKE:  I starting first making music when I was 14 in my Year 9 music room. I was terrible at first but these things take time! Think I got a few sniggers from my class mates, they couldn’t really believe it, one minute I was obsessed with football, then it was music.

Who is your biggest influence?
MIKE:  Probably The Beatles…was obsessed for quite a while. I used to watch ‘A Hard Days’ Night’ religiously every day. Knew every line!
RYAN:  Pink Floyd, Can, Air, David Axelrod.

What was your first gig?
MIKE: Haha…The Bootleg Beatles…they were unreal to be honest, go see them if you get the chance, you won’t regret it.

What is your favourite song to play live?
MIKE: Andrei Rublev or Tears We Cry…I really get to stretch those vocal chords

What is your favourite album of all time?
LEWIS: Personally for me I’d have to say its ‘Forever Changes’ by Love. It was the first album I had heard from the band and just every single song is incredible especially the extended version with ‘You’re Kind and We Belong Together’ on it

Who would you most like to collaborate with?
LEWIS: I think as a band we’d be up for collaborating with any musicians which share the same tastes or influence as us but could push us to new or different places that we’ve either never been or even thought about before we

Have you ever met someone that’s made you starstruck?
LEWIS: I met Brent Hinds from Mastodon while having a wee in the toilets in Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium last year which was completely surreal

What has been your favourite song this year?
BEN: Todd Terje – Maskindans

What should people expect at one of your gigs?
RYAN:  They should expect to come on a journey with us and let themselves go, we want the room to be one big vibe together.

If you could choose anything to be on your rider, what would it be?
RYAN: Nice few beers, a lovely bottle of wine each (red and white), steamed vegetables, lots of crisps and dips, a big bottle Bombay Sapphire, exotic fruits, and potentially a very excited puppy for us all to buzz off.
